It has come to our attention that various individuals have been contacted by people claiming to represent or be affiliated with the Flynn Group of Companies, offering false employment opportunities with our company via unsolicited e-mails. This is an attempt to collect personal information and/or some advanced form of payment known as recruitment fraud.

We recommend that you do not respond to unsolicited employment offers. If you are contacted by someone you suspect may not be appropriately representing the Flynn Group of Companies, please email us at [email protected]. You can also report scams to your local police department.

DURING THE RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION PROCESS AT THE FLYNN GROUP OF COMPANIES

  • We always conduct interviews. Please note our interviews will never be conducted via instant or direct messaging programs or applications. You will never be asked to have an interview over Facebook Messenger or Google Hangouts.
  • Our Human Resources Representatives will send professional communication from @flynncompanies.com or @flynn.ca accounts only. Beware of close variations such as @flynnscompanies.com (note the extra “s”).
  • We NEVER ask for or send funds (cash, cheques, e-transfers) during this process.
  • We do not ask for detailed personal information in advance of your start date.
  • We do not offer “remote” positions from a home office.
  • An employee’s first day always takes place at one of our office locations or on a project site.

Getting Started

We have a dedicated Immigration Team that will look after all of the immigration processes to bring you to Canada. We will assist you with any questions that you might have throughout the process.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED

  • Copy of your current passport (If your passport is expiring within the next year, please make sure to renew it as soon as possible)
  • Current Resume
  • Reference Letters
  • Copy of your Marriage Certificate (if applicable)
  • Copy of the Birth Certificate for your Children (if applicable)

Critical & Immediate Needs

BANKING

  • Transfer credit score from the UK to Canada. Having a Canadian credit score may be important in the following situations: signing a rental/lease agreement for your new home, signing a lease for a vehicle, signing up for a mobile phone plan or a Canadian credit card
  • Helpful links:
    Canadian Budget Binder, Canada Revenue Agency to familiarize yourself with the Canadian tax system as a newcomer to Canada. Please be aware that you may still need to file income taxes in the UK while you are in Canada.

MEDICAL INSURANCE

  • Provincial health benefits provide will kick in after the required
    time in your province. Flynn Provides extended benefits after completion of your 3 month probationary period.
  • Medical benefits provided by Flynn will kick in after the required time in your province; this will allow you to access care beyond the basic healthcare provided by each province and offer you coverage for prescription drugs

First Few Weeks
In Canada

The first few weeks in a new country can be exciting as you try to acclimate to your new city and prepare for your family to come. There are many things that you will need to consider and arrange once you arrive and before your family arrives.

FINDING A HOME FOR YOUR FAMILY

  • Flynn will provide you with 3 months of accommodations at no cost to you when you arrive, and this will provide you some time to research and find a home for your family before they arrive in Canada

EMERGENCY SERVICES

  • If you are having a critical emergency please note the number to call to access police, ambulance and fire services across Canada is: 911
  • Please contact your local branch’s Safety Department for further information (i.e. non-emergency telephone numbers, poison control, etc.)

HOME AND VEHICLE INSURANCE

  • You can speak to your local banking representative to find out the options available to you via your bank for insurance.

CHILDCARE

  • There are a variety of childcare options available to you – private care (babysitters, nannies); day care centres; municipal child care programs

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Please be advised that there are convenient phone apps and websites that gather some of these resources (supermarkets, shopping centres, entertainment, restaurants, nearby gas stations, etc.) so that users are more effective when searching for this information.

LOCAL FAMILY DOCTORS

  • The health care system in Canada may be different than what you are used to at home

    • You may want to research the differences between family doctors, walk in clinics, urgent care clinics and hospital emergency rooms to better prepare yourself and your family for accessing medical care

There may be upfront costs associated with accessing adult and child dental care

  • Flynn’s benefits package includes coverage for dental care, which you will have access to after your first 3 months working; once your dental benefits kick in, you will be able to receive reimbursement for most of the costs incurred from that point
